Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed by our representative and briefed on your birding expedition. Depart Kigali and head towards Nyungwe Forest National Park in the southwestern part of Rwanda. Enjoy the scenic drive through Rwanda’s picturesque countryside. Arrive at your accommodation, Nyungwe Top View Hill Hotel, in the evening. After checking in, relax and prepare for the birding adventure ahead.
Start your day early with a hearty breakfast before heading into Nyungwe Forest, one of Africa’s oldest montane forests. Nyungwe is home to over 300 bird species, including numerous Albertine Rift endemics. Spend the day exploring the forest with an experienced birding guide. Look out for species such as the Great Blue Turaco, Red-collared Mountain Babbler, Ruwenzori Turaco, and the Grauer’s Swamp Warbler. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the forest. In the afternoon, continue birding along the various trails. Return to Nyungwe Top View Hill Hotel for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, head back into Nyungwe Forest for another day of birding. Focus on different trails to spot species you may have missed on the previous day. Nyungwe’s diverse habitats, from dense forests to swamps, offer unique birding opportunities. In the afternoon, embark on a canopy walk, which provides a different perspective of the forest and its avian inhabitants. The 90-meter-long canopy walkway offers excellent views and a chance to spot birds at treetop level. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
After an early breakfast, check out from your lodge and begin your journey back to Kigali. En route, stop at various birding hotspots to maximize your birding experience. Your guide will help you identify and spot additional bird species along the way. Upon arrival in Kigali, you may have time for a short city tour or last-minute shopping, depending on your flight schedule. Transfer to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight, marking the end of your memorable birding expedition in Rwanda.
