Overview
The 8-day trek combines the ascent of Mount Speke and Margherita Peak, two of the highest peaks in the Rwenzori Mountains. This adventure offers a challenging and rewarding experience, taking you through diverse landscapes including lush forests, alpine meadows, and glacial terrains.
Tour Plan
Your adventure begins with a transfer to Nyakalengija. From there, start your hike through montane forest to Nyabitaba Camp. The trek takes approximately 5-6 hours. Overnight at Nyabitaba Camp.
Continue your trek through bamboo and heather zones. Cross the Kurt Shafer Bridge and ascend to John Matte Camp. Expect a trek of about 6-7 hours. Overnight at John Matte Camp.
Hike through boggy terrain, including the Bigo Bog, before reaching Bujuku Camp, located near Lake Bujuku. This segment of the trek takes approximately 5-6 hours. Overnight at Bujuku Camp.
Set out early to summit Mount Speke, reaching the peak at around 4890 meters. After taking in the views, return to Bujuku Camp for dinner and an overnight stay. The round-trip trek to the summit and back takes about 8-10 hours. Overnight at Bujuku Camp.
Ascend through alpine vegetation to Elena Hut, situated near the glacier. This section of the trek involves approximately 4-5 hours of hiking. Overnight at Elena Hut.
Start early for the challenging ascent to Margherita Peak, the highest point of Mount Stanley at 5109 meters. After reaching the summit, descend to Kitandara Lakes Camp. Expect a full day of trekking, approximately 10-12 hours. Overnight at Kitandara Lakes Camp.
Descend through the lush Kitandara region, crossing the Freshfield Pass before arriving at Guy Yeoman Camp. This trek takes around 5-6 hours. Overnight at Guy Yeoman Camp.
Continue your descent from Guy Yeoman Camp to Nyabitaba Camp for lunch. Afterward, proceed down to Nyakalengija for your transfer to the next destination. The entire trek takes approximately 6-7 hours.
