3 Day Trek via Mahoma Nature Trail/Loop

Your adventure begins either in Fort Portal town or Kasese, from where you will be driven to Mihunga Park Gate (1615m). After registration and a briefing at the gate, start your trek through the dense montane forest. The trail ascends gradually, and you will pass through areas of rich biodiversity, with opportunities to spot various bird species and primates. The forest is home to species such as black-and-white colobus monkeys and blue monkeys. After a challenging hike, arrive at Omukakiiza (2977m) where you will set up camp for the night. Dinner and overnight stay in tents.

After an early breakfast, continue your trek towards Lake Mahoma. The trail becomes steeper and more challenging as you ascend through the bamboo and heather zones. The forest gives way to a long, narrow moss-covered ridge, offering breathtaking views of the Rwenzori Mountains. As you climb higher, the vegetation changes to giant lobelias and groundsel, characteristic of the high-altitude zones. Upon reaching Lake Mahoma at 3515m, you will be rewarded with the serene beauty of the lake surrounded by alpine vegetation. Spend the afternoon exploring the area and enjoying the stunning scenery. Dinner and overnight stay at the lakeside camp.

On the final day, begin your descent from Lake Mahoma back to Mihunga Park Gate. The trail initially leads to Nyabitaba, providing a different perspective of the diverse landscapes and ecosystems. As you descend, take time to enjoy the views and capture the memories of your trek. From Nyabitaba, continue descending through the forest until you reach Mihunga Park Gate. Here, you will be met by your driver for the transfer back to Fort Portal or Kasese, marking the end of your trekking adventure.
