7 Days Margherita Peak via Bukurungu Trail

Begin your trek from the trailhead, passing through the tropical montane forest. This day involves a gradual ascent to Kasanzi Camp, which takes approximately 5-6 hours. Overnight at Kasanzi Camp.

Continue your ascent through the bamboo and heather zones, reaching Kambeho Camp after about 6-7 hours of hiking. The terrain becomes more rugged as you climb higher. Overnight at Kambeho Camp.

Trek through a mix of rocky and boggy terrain, arriving at Lamia Camp after about 5-6 hours. The camp offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. Overnight at Lamia Camp.

Ascend to Lake Bukurungu Camp, nestled beside the beautiful Lake Bukurungu, after about 6-7 hours of trekking. Alternatively, you can proceed to Bigo Camp depending on the route taken. Overnight at Lake Bukurungu Camp or Bigo Camp.

Climb higher into the alpine zone, passing Irine Lake and reaching Elena Camp after about 6-7 hours. The camp is situated close to the glacier, offering a final rest before the summit push. Overnight at Irine Lake Camp or Elena Camp.

Start early for the summit attempt of Margherita Peak. After reaching the summit, descend back to John Matte Camp or Bigo Camp for an overnight stay. The total trekking time for the day is about 10-12 hours. Overnight at John Matte Camp or Bigo Camp.

Descend from John Matte Camp or Bigo Camp to Mihunga Gate, marking the end of your trek. The descent takes approximately 7-8 hours. After arrival at the gate, you will be picked up and transferred back to your hotel or the airport.
